The 2020 Roadmasters

The 2020 edition of the Roadmasters series includes some changes to allow for credit for local racing events towards the overall standings. The purpose is to encourage participation in local events while making it possible for Roadmaster participants to miss more than a single event per year. Each fleet may select one local distance race and two local buoy racing events. These local races are optional if one participates in every Roadmaster event, and could potentially improve one’s overall score otherwise.

SCORING

In order to accommodate scoring different regional races against each other, the scoring system is using a High Point Normalized Scoring Method® according to the following guidelines:

  1. A boat’s score for each regatta will be calculated based on how many boats finished behind it: the score will be (number of boats beaten + 1 ) / total number of boats participating x 100. This number will be an integer value between zero and one hundred.

  2. A boat is considered to have participated in a regatta if it was in the vicinity of the staring area at the time of the start. This includes boats that finished properly, or were scored DNF, OCS, RAF, in at least one race of the regatta. The specific intent is to count boats that came to the event, but may have been unknowingly OCS (and therefore did not properly start), and boats that sailed the race but DNF. Registered boats that did not show up to the event (DNC) are not considered participants.

  3. Two day events will be entered into the results as two events with that score; three day events will be entered as three events with that score. We are effectively weighing events by the number of days sailed. This will, for example, weight your score at Nationals three times more than the Three Bridge Fiasco.

  4. Boats may sail in multiple local races if desired. Up to one local distance race score and two local buoy racing scores may be counted lieu of Roadmaster scores.

  5. The Roadmaster Series Score is the sum of the highest 11 scores of 13 days of racing, totaling a maximum of 1100 points.

  6. Ties in final scoring will be broken in accordance with RRS A8.

  7. In order to be eligible for the Roadmasters awards, a boat may miss PCCs or Nationals, but not both.

LOCAL DISTANCE RACES

Distance in excess of 15 miles. May be DH, or crewed. Intended as one-day event. Two-day distance races that are scored together may be counted as a one-day event, or one of the days may be chosen as the counter.

LOCAL BUOY RACES

Two single-day events is best, or a two-day event may substitute, in which case the score for that event is counted twice. Preferably multiple races per day, but not mandatory. Upwind/downwind buoy racing, fully crewed.
